Calling all Apple fans, there are exciting announcements for you! Introducing new iPhone colours, a double-stacked processor, iPad updates, and More! Feel free to use the table of contents to skip to your favourite announcement.
M1 Ultra
Back in October of 2021, Apple released The M1 Max processer. A super-powerful version of their original Apple-made processer. It included higher RAM, memory bandwidth, more Transistors, and more. This seemed like a ridiculous amount of power for some people, but for others, it wasn’t enough! Some people wanted more! They wanted to do super graphics-intensive tasks, that couldn’t even be handled with M1 Max!
Apple needed to find a solution for the people! They thought about using a traditional way of linking together to chips, but it took too long to transfer information between chips. They thought and thought about a way to make an ultra-powerful processer, but still didn’t have a solution! And then, they found a way! Apple managed to make a super speed connecter to transfer data between chips. This means 2X the power of M1 Max! This new M1 Ultra processer supports 128GB of RAM, a 20 Core CPU, and more crazy specs. Wow!
Mac Studio
I’m sure you’ve heard of the Mac Pro. The ultra-expensive Apple computer for “the real pros” out there. You can spec it out to over $52,000 CAD! (Not counting peripherals of the monitor). And by the way, the wheels themselves cost over $800! For most people, this was ridiculous pricing. People wanted a place to use their M1 Ultra processer, at a cheaper price.
Introducing the Mac Studio! A compact computer, at a more reasonable price. The Mac Studio is a very nice size (fits right on your desk). It also has a wide range of connectivity, including Thunderbolt 4, Ethernet, USB, HDMI, 3.5mm headphone, SD, and more! It pairs nicely with a magic mouse, keyboard, trackpad, or most 3rd party devices. And you don’t have to worry about a speaker because it already has one!
If You choose to use M1 Max with your device, you can expect prices starting at around $2,500 CAD. If you choose to go for M1 Ultra, you can find starting prices at around $5000 CAD. Pretty reasonably compared to the Mac Pro! So in all, a pretty fantastic computer, at a pretty fantastic price! Next up, the Studio Display: Mac Studio’s best partner!
Studio Display
Are you getting ready to order your Mac Studio? Guess what, a display comes with it! Introducing: the Studio Display! The Studio Display is a 27″ 5K Display, speaker, and camera! It can go up to 600 nits peak brightness, and supports True Tone (matches the colour of your display to the colour of the room you’re in). It can also be configured with a non-reflective coating.
Let’s talk about video and audio! The Studio Display comes with a 12 Megapixel (or 12 million pixel) ultra-wide camera. Because this camera has such a wide-angled lens, it supports Center Stage, which can zoom in and follow you around the room! On the audio side of things, the Studio Display comes with stereo speakers, that have support for Dolby Atmos! The Studio Display also comes with a three-mic audio recording system, with a super low noise floor (or at least to be claimed).
Along with the connections on the Mac Studio, the Studio Display includes a few ports as well! Expect 3 USB-C ports, along with 1 Thunderbolt 3 port. And when it comes time to display your display, you have 3 stand choices. You could get a tilt-adjustable stand, a tilt and height-adjustable stand, or a VESA adapter to mount it yourself! All of this is available either on its own, or with your Mac Studio!
M1 iPad Air
A little while ago, Apple updated the iPad Pro to include support for M1. Now it’s time for the iPad Air! Apple claims the device is 60% faster than the previous model. What in increase! It also includes support for Center Stage, meaning every iPad make now has it! Not enough for you? The iPad Air now has 5G cellular capability! Think of the possibilities!
This makes me think. If Apple is putting so many new features into the iPad Air, is there still that much of a difference between it and the iPad Pro? I don’t think so!
iPhone SE
It may seem that everything Apple makes is over-priced. That is sometimes true, however, Apple always likes to keep a few things reasonably priced. The iPhone Special Edition (or SE) is one of those things. That’s why Apple is excited to announce its latest iPhone SE update!
The newest model of the iPhone SE includes the A15 Bionic chip, which wich will increase the speed and performance of the device. Apple has also done some as-expected updates including the addition of 5G and longer battery life (15 hours of video playback!). Additionally, They claim that the new processer will allow faces and backgrounds in photos to look better, but that will have to be put to the test!
iPhone Colours
And now for the last (and maybe least important) announcement of this event. The iPhone 13 and 13 Pro will be available in green. Yup, that’s it.
Alright! That’s the roundup of the March 8 Apple announcement event! If you want to watch it you can visit the Apple Events website.
