An Athlete Riding a Bobsled on an Ice Track

All You Need to Know – Bobsleigh

Learn what you need to know on Bobsleigh for this year's Olympic Games! New events, top countries, and more.

Soon, we will have information on every Olympic sport! But for now, we wanted to focus on Bobsleigh (I like to call it Bobsled, though). Bobsleigh was first added to the Winter Olympic Games in 1924. It all started when two skeleton sleds were attached together, and a steering system was added to this makeshift car.

For this year’s games, a new women’s event has been added! Monobob is just like bobsled, but with only one athlete. That means that one person is doing all the pushing, breaking, and driving! As of 15 February 2022, Germany has the most bobsled medals for this year’s Olympics. One gold, one silver, and one bronze in the sport. Oh, and 23 countries are competing!
Fun Fact: A bobsled can reach speeds of more than 130 kilometers per hour? That’s faster than driving on the highway
